POROUS METAL SPARGING PRODUCTS
FOR FOOD AND BEVERAGE

Rather than the harsh entrance of large bubbles from drilled pipe and other competitive devices, porous metal provides a gentle and more efficient introduction of the gas through the propagation of millions of fine bubbles. This results in greater gas/liquid contact area and highly efficient mass transfer of the gas into the liquid. Process time and gas volume are reduced saving both time and money.

Some specific sparging applications include N2 injection into emulsifiers and oils to remove O2, batch hydrogenation applications, gas introduction and mixing in fermentation applications, and carbonation of beverages.

Porous metal components are being used in an ever growing variety of food industry applications. It is used in food bulking and debulking, filtration, aeration, floatation, venting and steam injection. It has also been used to create dimensional vacuum molds to create specific ‘shapes’ from slurries and batters such as cookie, candy, chicken and fish. Mott’s porous metal diffusers have been used in snack food packaging operations by gently blowing open bags with nitrogen, preparing them for filling and at the same time displacing the air which helps to extends product shelf life. Porous metal is also used in filtration systems used in oil hydrogenation to recover expensive catalysts (virtually 100%) with a minimum of product loss.
